PhD position on the kinematics of young stellar cluster in Grenoble/Madrid

The main objective of the proposed PhD project is to fully characterize the statistical properties of young stellar clusters (IMF, spatial distribution, kinematics, multiplicity...) using very accurate proper motion data, in order to constrain the star formation theories.

The tools that will be developed during the thesis shall be applied to the future Gaia space mission database, ensuring excellent and exciting career perspectives.

Location: Institute of Planetology and Astrophysics of Grenoble (IPAG, http://ipag.osug.fr).

A "cotutelle" (joint PhD) may be organized between IPAG and UNED, Madrid. In that case, the 1rst year will be in Madrid and the next 2 years in Grenoble.

The PhD position is for 3 years, starting in fall 2013. Applicants are expected to hold a Master degree / diploma in physics, astrophysics, space sciences or applied mathematics. Knowledge of advanced statistical methods for data analysis is an asset.

Applications are accepted until the position is filled. Please send your application with a motivation letter and a CV in electronic form to Dr. E. Moraux: emoraux@obs.ujf-grenoble.fr
