Workshop on Distance Geometry and Applications 2013

24-27 June, Manaus, Brazil

The aim of the DGA2013 workshop is to bring together researchers in multidisciplinary fields, with emphasis on Distance Geometry (DG). Distance Geometry is an area of research already consolidated, with Mathematics and Computer Science as key areas at its foundation. The fundamental problem of DG is to find a set of points in a given geometric space whose distances between some of these points are known.

Besides the beauty of the mathematical theory associated to DG, the interest in this research topic is explained by the richness and variety of its applications. Among the best known ones we find molecular structure determination by using NMR data, localization of sensor networks, graph rigidity, graph realization, data visualization, and robotics.

In Astronomy, Distance Geometry may be of particular interest to Astrometry, as well as to other areas dealing with Data Analysis, Pattern Recognition and Statistics.

The Astronomy keynote speech is entitled "The self-calibrating solutions of all-sky space Astrometry", and will address global space Astrometry. The invited speaker is Dr. Floor van Leeuwen (University of Cambridge / IoA).
