Resumo

The MUSE integral field spectrograph has allowed us to carry out ultra-deep surveys of the sky without pre-selection of targets. This has meant that we now get redshifts for galaxies that are so faint no-one in their good mind would consider putting a fibre or slit on them. As a consequence we now have spectroscopic redshifts of galaxies down to 30th magnitude - a region that normally is only studied using photometric redshifts. This has allowed us to test the performance of photometric redshifts for such extremely faint galaxies and in this cookie seminar I’ll discuss why this is interesting, how we went about this task and what this implies for future surveys that will have to rely on photometric redshifts.
